Frequently Asked Questions

How much does financial planning cost at Outlive Financial Planning?

Ongoing financial planning starts at $250 per month, billed monthly with no long-term contracts. Investment management starts at 1.5% annually for the first $500,000 (e.g. $500K = $7,500/yr), reducing to 1.0% above that. One-time financial plans start at $3,500 and hourly planning is available at $250 per hour. Everything is disclosed upfront. No surprises.

Do I pay both a planning fee and an AUM fee?

It depends on which service you use.

For ongoing financial planning only, you pay the monthly planning fee starting at $250 per month. No AUM fee.

For clients who also have investment management, the monthly planning fee is waived and you pay only the AUM fee. All comprehensive planning services remain included.

Everything is disclosed upfront before we start working together.

What is the difference between fee-only and fee-based financial advice?

Fee-only means I am paid solely by you. No commissions, no referral fees, no revenue sharing with product companies.

Fee-based advisors can collect both fees from clients and commissions from financial products they recommend. That dual compensation structure creates conflicts of interest even when the advisor has good intentions.

Fee-only removes those conflicts entirely.

Do you file my taxes?

No, I do not prepare or file tax returns. That is what a CPA or tax preparer does in March and April.

What I do is tax planning, which is a different and often more valuable service. Tax planning is the proactive strategy you put in place throughout the year to legally minimize what you owe before tax season arrives. That includes Roth conversion timing, tax-loss harvesting, asset location across taxable and tax-deferred accounts, charitable giving strategy, and retirement contribution sequencing.

I handle the strategy. I coordinate with your CPA or EA (Enrolled Agent) on the filing.

How do you help with estate planning?

Most people in their 30s and 40s know they should have an estate plan but have not gotten around to it. Research shows 58% of millennials have no estate planning documents despite most saying it is personally important. If you have kids, a home, investments, or digital assets, that gap is a real risk.

I partner with EncoreEstatePlans to deliver core documents including powers of attorney, wills, and revocable living trusts starting at $750. For more complex needs I connect you with trusted estate attorneys. Estate plan review is included in ongoing financial planning.

Here is what most people do not think about until it is too late: if you die without a will, state law decides who gets your assets and who raises your children. Naming guardians for your kids and making sure your beneficiary designations are current are two of the highest-impact things you can do right now.

I also help clients think through digital asset inheritance, beneficiary coordination across retirement accounts, life insurance, and real estate, and how the upcoming Great Wealth Transfer may affect your own planning.

How do you help with real estate investing decisions?

Real estate is one of the most powerful wealth-building tools available to high-income earners, but it comes with tax and financial complexity.

I help clients think through buy, sell, rent, and hold decisions with an eye on the full financial picture. That includes depreciation strategy, bonus depreciation, cost segregation studies, 1031 exchanges to defer capital gains, short-term rental analysis including Airbnb and vacation properties, and depreciation recapture planning when it is time to sell.

I also help clients evaluate whether real estate makes sense as part of their overall portfolio alongside other assets and how to structure property decisions to minimize taxes over the long term. Real estate does not live in a silo and neither should your advice on it.

What does the onboarding process look like?

It starts with a free 30-minute intro call. If we are a good fit, I send a proposal and we move into a four-step process that takes most clients six to eight weeks from first call to completed financial plan.

1

Intro Call

2

Proposal + Agreement

Review questions and sign

3

Discovery Call

90-minute meeting centered around your values and priorities

4

Get Organized

Gather financial documents, confirm accuracy

5

Plan Presentation

Customized financial plan video sent in advance, a deep dive meeting to follow

Which brokerage or custodian do you use?

I custody client assets at Altruist, a modern, SEC and FINRA regulated custodian built specifically for independent RIAs. Altruist keeps costs low, offers a clean client portal, commission-free trading, and up to $3M in FDIC insurance on cash accounts. Client assets are segregated from company funds under the Customer Protection Rule.

Is there a minimum to work with Outlive Financial Planning?

There is no asset minimum. Ongoing financial planning starts at $250 per month. Investment management is typically for clients with portfolios between $500,000 and $3,000,000. If you are not sure whether you are a fit, an intro call is the right place to figure that out.

What's included in comprehensive financial planning?

Everything that affects your financial life. Tax planning and strategy, investment management, cash flow optimization, estate planning, insurance review, education planning, real estate analysis, equity compensation and RSU planning, and Bitcoin integration where relevant. I also coordinate directly with your CPA and estate attorney so every piece of your financial life works together rather than in silos. The difference from traditional planning is that I also factor in your health and your time, not just your net worth.
